How to apply

One format. One shot. Same rubric for everyone.

We review every application against the same rubric, so every founder is compared on substance, not slide design. We ask all applicants to submit the same two artefacts: a 12-slide pitch deck in our standard format, and a short structured intake form. Skip the 40-page memo. Skip the polished startup-school deck. Just answer the twelve questions, clearly.

01

The Pitch Deck (required)

Format: PDF or HTML · 16:9 · max 12 slides · max 10MB · one point per slide · headline message at the top of each slide.

Build your own deck to this exact structure:

See the 12-slide structure
  1. Cover Venture name, one-line pitch (the solution in 15 words or fewer), founder name, focus area
  2. The Problem Specific pain for maritime SMEs, the AS-IS workflow, who has it, and the quantified cost of that pain today
  3. The Solution Product concept, your value proposition, an early visualisation or mockup, and the quantified impact you create
  4. Why Now Regulation, tech shift or market moment making this the right time
  5. Market Size TAM / SAM / SOM with sources (gate: TAM > €1bn · SOM > €20M)
  6. Business Model B2B software (SaaS) revenue model, pricing hypothesis, who buys and who uses, and your path to profitability by year 3 to 4
  7. Early Validation Customer interviews, LOIs, waitlist, pilot interest
  8. Competition Landscape and your differentiation
  9. Go-to-Market How you'll reach Italian SME customers, and how this scales in maritime and beyond
  10. Founder Who you are, why you're uniquely able to execute, commitment level, Italy base or willingness to relocate, and relevant maritime or domain experience
  11. Roadmap & Use of Program Resources 3 to 12 month plan, plus how you'll use Maritime Ventures' capital, network, pilots and guidance
  12. Appendix (optional) Backup data for Q&A, not scored
02

The Intake Form (required)

A short structured form that feeds our application review, so we can filter, sort and score consistently. You'll upload your 12-slide PDF inside the form.

  • Founder details and contacts
  • Venture name and description
  • Areas of interest. We're looking for B2B software projects that digitize SMEs in Italy's naval and port industry. Some example areas of interest: software for autonomous systems and robotics · data and analytics for vessel and fleet management · digitization of ports and logistics chains
  • TAM (€bn) · SAM (€M) · SOM (€M)
  • Italy-based or willing to relocate
  • Full-time commitment from day one
  • Co-founders? (optional)
  • Existing entity? (and stage)
  • Link to website, prototype or MVP (if any)
  • Pitch deck upload (PDF or HTML, 10MB max)

Applications missing either artefact, or that don't follow the 12-slide structure, are returned with a note before review, not rejected outright. We'd rather you resubmit clean than be scored on the wrong canvas.

How we select

From application to offer.

  1. 1 Pitch deck and intake form submitted through our standard format.
  2. 2 First eligibility check against the basic program criteria.
  3. 3 Founders call to meet you and pressure-test the idea.
  4. 4 Deeper evaluation of the idea, the market and the founder.
  5. 5 Reference and network checks.
  6. 6 Offer and onboarding into the kick-off.
  7. 7 Hands-on support as you build toward first traction.
  8. 8 Board preparation ahead of the investment decision.
  9. 9 Board evaluation and the go or no-go on co-investment.
Why now

Italian maritime is a €216B economy entering its digital decade, yet the founders building for it are scattered, under-capitalised and far from the buyers who need them.

The Founders Program is our answer: a single door for the most promising early-stage maritime ideas, with the capital, customers and craft to turn one into a real company.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Why a fixed 12-slide format?

So every founder is scored on substance, not slide design. It also tells us you can communicate crisply, which is half the founder job.

Can I send my existing investor deck instead?

No. Please re-cast it into our format. It takes an hour and dramatically improves your odds.

Do I need to have a co-founder?

No. You can apply as a solo founder, and we can help you build out the team.

Do I need to be Italian or based in Italy?

Italy-based or willing to relocate.

Is the €50k grant or equity?

Both. The €50k is split between grant and equity depending on your startup's stage.

What if my idea sits outside the three focus areas?

Apply anyway. Focus areas guide our outreach, not selection. What matters is that the venture is maritime, digital and B2B.

What happens if my venture isn't selected for co-investment?

You keep the IP and the network, and we stay in touch.

Can I apply with an existing company?

Yes, if it's still pre-seed and you haven't raised institutional capital.

Which language should I apply in?

Deck and form in English or Italian.

When is the deadline?

There are two. Apply by July 28, 2026 for priority review, which includes hands-on project steering and full board vetting. The final deadline is August 28, 2026, with a standard review and limited board vetting, no steering. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis in both windows.
